The Supreme Court will on Monday November 7, rule on the legal tussle between the Electoral Commission and the Progressive People’s Party over the disqualification of their Presidential candidate from the Presidential race.
The Seven-member panel presided over by Justice Sophia Adiniyira will determine if the High court ruling asking the EC to allow Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom to correct the errors on his nomination form should stand or not.
The High court last week ruled that the basis for the EC’s disqualification of the PPP’s presidential candidate is against the natural law of justice. The court further blamed the EC for failing to set a nomination period for the submission of the nomination forms.
Meanwhile, another High court has today ruled that the flagbearer of the APC Hassan Ayariga, who was also disqualification for similar reasons, should also be given the opportunity to rectify his errors.
The PNC and NDP are also in court to fight their disqualification.
The election management body disqualified 12 presidential candidates the upcoming polls over anomalies detecetd on their nomnation forms.
The chairperson of the commission Charlotte Osei in an interview with the BBC Thusrady justified the decision of the commisson to pursue the matter in court.
